Top Five Career Insights From Innovators, Disruptors, and Leaders
Whether you want it or not, career advice is everywhere. And I’m sure we could all use a little advice to keep excelling in our professional journey.
Since the launch of my Army of Gamechangers podcast, I’ve been inundated with emails from listeners that have found value in the advice and insights shared by my guests.
And that’s why I’ve compiled the five most popular insights based on my listeners feedback.
I hope you enjoy them and I’ve also included the links to the podcasts should you want to get the full experience from my guests.
1.“Identify your goals in any position and pursue them”
Secretary Leon Panetta served as the Director of the CIA and as the Secretary of Defense under President Obama. This man, who has over five decades of public service experience, tells young people to strive to be leaders who understand the courage needed to make leadership decisions and take risks. His number one piece of advice to young people is to identify their goals in any position and to pursue them.

2.“You’re only as good as your fastball.”
Erik Logan, President of Oprah Winfrey Network shared advice on how you can take the next step on your career path. His answer: “You’re only as good as your fastball.” In other words, in the same way a great baseball pitcher develops his fastball for his best pitch, you need to find the one thing you do better than anyone else. The power of focus gives you motivation and strength in your business and career.

3.“Push yourself out of your comfort zone.”
Tracy Cioffi’s, CMO of Mod Pizza, advice for managing your career path is to regularly push yourself out of your comfort zone. She has made a habit of saying yes to jobs she felt were too big and then growing into them. If you want to get to the next level in your career, not only do you need to challenge yourself, you have to back it up with action.

4.“Continue to be curious.”
Thought leader Kevin Carroll shares by example of how children are naturally curious. As they are allowed to play and explore, they are also developing creative qualities such as problem solving and thinking outside the box. Employers prize these qualities in adults and as adults we need to continue to be curious. A spirit of play promotes curiosity and enables creative confidence, which in turn is the foundation of innovation.

5.“Follow your heart.”
Jose Mangin of Sirius XM has one main piece of career management advice: follow your heart. Do work you feel passionate about. Of course you have to earn a living, but in Jose’s case, money isn’t his biggest motivator. His goal has always been to be a part of things he feels passionate about. He believes in treating people well and developing a stellar reputation.
